December 13th 2024

I've been working on the new addition to my website for the past few days. Judging by the progress I've made so far, it's going to take significantly longer than I expected. It'll probably take a month or two, but hopefully it'll be worth the wait. :)

December 2nd 2024

It's been forever since I've made a game!
Anyways, Golden Tower is out, it's a short RPG game, took me roughly 15 minutes to 100% it.

To clear up any potential confusion, this is unrelated to the "Angry Birds Stella + Angry Birds Epic" fangame
(which I've now named "Stella Stellar") I've mentioned in a previous post.

It's got a little bit of Stella to prevent me from tossing the game aside when my first RPG inevitably fails to meet my expectations, and it's got a little bit of Epic because it's an Angry Birds RPG, so I might as well.

October 28th 2024

Changed the back buttons for most of the pages.
The back buttons being my profile pic was always meant to be temporary, don't know how they stuck around for so long.
Also added another back button to the top of the News page so you don't have to scroll all the way down. Will do the same to the other pages later

October 28th 2024

I've added the Junk page.
Although I couldn't come up with a design that I liked, and now that I think about it, I don't want a whole dedicated building for the few shitposts I make, so now it's only accessible by clicking on a certain house in the Neighbourhood.

October 27th 2024

I have a pretty big announcement to make.

I'm not making big animation projects anymore.

I've come to realize that animating big projects just hasn't brought any joy to me.
I used to think it was because of the whole "artists hate their art" thing.
However, during the few months that my tablet broke, I did a whole bunch of other things to pass the time, from gamedev, to making things that sound like music, to just plainly making digital art (using a mouse).
and from these few months, I've come to realize: although I still don't have the best opinions of my final products (for good reason), you're actually supposed to enjoy making those works (It's why people make things in the first place!)

I liked composing, I liked drawing (with a mouse), I liked writing the rough drafts of Daniel's Adventure Show, and hell, I enjoyed programming, and that's not a sentence you see often!
But just when I was getting aquainted to joy in quantities I haven't experienced since 2014, I take it all away from myself by animating DAS (ironically, the project that was supposed to bring me that 2014 joy)

I think the main reason is that animating just takes so much more time than other mediums. I can sketch, line, colour, and shade a drawing in a single day, I could theoretically do the same to a comic in a week, I can make music in two weeks, and I can make a whole game in a month.
But with the first episode of DAS, with no shading, and only two colours maximum in each frame, several months of chipping away day after day, I was only about 75% done.

During those 3 months, I was more than familiar with every flaw present in the writing and the animation.
With shorter animations or stuff in other mediums, I could finish them near instantly, immediately learn from the mistakes I made, and start a new project, making more mistakes to learn from.
If I had just made DAS a webcomic instead, I could've been done with all 3 parts all the way back in June (or perhaps early August) and immediately write a new story using the lessons I had learned.
But with longer animations like DAS, I had to sit with my mistakes. I had to constantly fight the urge to start over and "fix" my mistakes, because the last time I did that, Hosania History happened. (several years for a 5-minute animation with 0 sound design)
During those several months, I could only stare at these mistakes. I know damn well what's wrong with the project, what I could do better, but until I finish the flawed project, I couldn't make use of what I've learned, and therefore I couldn't "prove" to myself that i'm a better writer/animator/whatever.

I was planning to grit my teeth and finish animating all 3 episode of DAS around who knows what year, and then make this announcement, but something happened.
Last week, a Windows update corrupted my PC somehow, and I had to take it to a repair shop. I was able to recover most of my files, (mainly the ones I'm weirdly emotionally dependent on) but I did lose a few things, and one of them was the OpenToonz file of DAS.
I decided I wasn't going to waste any more time on something I hated, so I'm scrapping the DAS animations and reworking it into some kinda game, maybe turn it into a platformer or something
(Daniel-themed platformers were also something I used to be obsessed with)

From this point forward, I'm going to focus more on gamedev (At least with programming, the fact that going back to redo older parts will cause the project's downfall is often a lot more literal, so I have an easier time convincing myself to look the other way until the final product), maybe even start a webcomic or two
Sorry if you liked what I had to offer animation-wise, but you're not going to see much of it after today.

To end this announcement on a less negative note, here are some things you should expect from me in the near future:

-2 new additions to this website

(One is simply a junkyard where I put whatever I want, mainly text stuff and shitposts)
(The other is a big addition that I plan on keeping a surprise ;) )

-a few small RPGs
(I've got 3 whole reasons why I started learning gamedev, and all 3 of them are RPGs)

(Now that I'm more familiar with Godot, I'm going to start gaining experience in making RPGs so I can make these 3 projects)

-The DAS game
(Not exactly top priority right now, but I'll get to it eventually)

That's about it, see ya.

August 8th 2024

Updated the Music page because I love procrastinating.

The links in each entry will now take you to their respective Jummbox pages instead of redundantly presenting you another audio player. Sorry if you liked having each music opened in another tab for some reason.

August 4th 2024

Figured I'll post an update instead of being completely radio silent.

I just started doing the lineart for DAS part 1 a few days ago.

There's going to be 3 parts total, not much in the way of colour because reasons, and unlike Hosania History, there's audio!

Unfortunately, there won't be voice acting, as my current enviroment isn't ideal for recording. I share the same computer room as my brother, and he never leaves his computer, resulting in a lot of background noise.

July 14th 2024

I've got several good news today

First of all, I got a drawing tablet a while back. I've been getting the hang of it. It was used to draw most of the assets in my latest(as of writing this) game: Malnutrition

I'm also familiarizing myself with OpenToonz, because I can't use Flipaclip on the computer.

Second of all,

I've finally finished writing Daniel's Adventure Show! The first episode is currently being animated!

Some background info on why I'm making DAS (It's not just out of altruism for 10 year-old me) :

After Hosania History, I learnt not to continuously bash my head against a story I can't pull off, but unfortunately I didn't learn not to make stories I can't pull off in the first place.

For several years, I kept starting stories, and when the first few sentences do not meet my high expectations, I immediately shelved them for future me, who would hopefully be a better writer.
But because I keep shelving stories and never finishing one, I never get any writing experience that I need to actually be a better writer.
If I kept up this loop of making and shelving stories, I would never be able to be good enough to write the stuff I want to write.

I realized this earlier this year, and decided to force myself to write something simple. I chose DAS because
A: Remaking "Daniel's Adventures" is a goal of mine (In fact, Hosania History started off as a remake of Daniel's Adventures), and my expectations for such a remake would only increase with time, so I might as well get it done sooner. If I don't like how DAS turns out, I could just do another remake later.
B: The simple title and simpler design of the titular Daniel should hopefully remind me why I'm writing DAS in the first place, so I never go off track.

Anyways, sorry for disapearing for 3 months, because I'm gonna do it again! See you later!

April 1st 2024

Added SOMETHING REALLY EPIC to the art page

March 24th 2024

The houses are finished! It was quite challenging trying to come up with a design that represents each website.
some of them are a little basic, but all in all I'm quite proud of this project.

The Neighbourhood has also been added to my Homepage.

March 21st 2024

Miku House

Bottom Text

March 17th 2024

Updated the Buttons Page.

I have chosen the first idea I had for it: a residential area. Can't have a city without citizens!
Now I just need to come up with a design for each house.

March 16th 2024

Updated the Music page.

Now they've got functional Audio Players.

March 12th 2024

Added a place for buttons

Still unsure what it should look like, it MIGHT be a residential zone where I draw little houses to accompany the buttons?

Second idea: some sort of Internet cafe, each button has a little computer which displays their website's home page.

March 5th 2024

Originally I was a little adamant about not putting the trend-chasing animations I made around 2020 on this website, but now I've changed my mind a little.

While I'm still not quite proud of them by virtue of them being made with fame in mind, they're still a part of my portfolio and history, and deserve preservation nonetheless.

Remind me to go back and download them, I don't have the original files anymore.

March 1st 2024

CityBuilder TowerDefense is out! Go play it and give me your thoughts.

Unfortunately it's a little unbalanced, but I'm way past my self-appointed deadline of "Some time before Chinese New Year", and I don't want to spend too much time on what was supposed to be a simple, one week long project.

I'm definitely going to flesh this out in the future. But now, I'm going to fully priorize Daniel's Adventure Show.
Plus, I'm saving up for a tablet.

February 25th 2024

Borrowed some code from EZ Gallery to make my website's galleries prettier and easier to upload new stuff to.
Previously I had to manually set them into rows of four.

Still unsure if I should change the games page to match the animations page (Link to media is embeded in thumbnail) or the animations page to match the games page (Link to media is embeded in title).

February 22nd 2024

Changed how the News page is formatted.

Finally finished the street sprites.
Turns out I was right to save them for later. they were quite a hassle, surprisingly.

With that, the visual overhaul is officially complete!

I'll miss you, #ffff80 background.

February 20th 2024

It's been a while, sorry.

Chinese New Year arrived so I had to celebrate with my family.

Then, I prioritized working on two things: Daniel's Adventure Show and some Unnamed TowerDefense-CityBuilder Hybrid.

The former is a reimagining of an old story I wrote as a young lad.

The latter is currently facing balancing issues; Every change I make either makes it too easy or impossible.

Anyways, I added the Art page and the Games page. Go check them out!

All that's left for the city layout is the street. I'll work on that later.
